My poor baby!

Well, I have been gone from the blogging world for quite a while now. Finally after all the stress of 'getting ready' for the holidays was done and we were enjoying our Christmas day....Rusty decided to go check out grandma's fireplace. But for the sake of time I'm just going to attach the e-mails I've already sent out about this.
Christmas day: Sorry about scaring everyone...or at least a few of you. We took a picture in the ER of Rusty and it looked like he was waving....so I thought it would be cute to send it out with the text saying "Merry Christmas from the ER!" Well we sent the picture without the text then we sent another one with just the text...well apparently most people got the 2nd text and not the picture. SO Sorry! Russell is okay, he went to investigate grandma's fireplace and put his hand right on the glass front. He does have 2nd degree burns covering his left hand, and they are pretty bad! Here is a few pictures...one is the picture we had tried to send saying "Merry Christmas from the ER!" and the other two is of the actual burn****CAUTION***** These pictures are not for the faint at heart! One is just after we got there which already looked worse since the time we decided to go to the ER...and the other is just before they wrapped it the last time! Needless to say this poor kid was SCREAMING from the time it happened until 15-20 minutes after they finally gave him the baby Lortab. The nice thing is that when we got to the ER they let us go 'right back' which meant only about 8-10 minutes in the waiting room and we got to jump in front of quite a few people. He's home and doing Okay, he found out pretty fast that he can't crawl anymore so has had to revert back to the 'army crawl' but it's only half an army crawl which is kind of funny! Although most of the time mommy is just holding him. It's ironic because he was finally getting rid of the darn black eye! (hey look a toy is falling...right on my face!)

Tuesday's email: It seems weird that in a few weeks my 'baby' will be a year old, we still refer to him as 'the baby' quite often. Well, they are saying by the time his birthday comes around Rusty's hand will be all better or at least much better. And by, "they," I mean the staff in the Burn Unit at the University Hospital. Today they cut the blister and dead skin off his hand and thumb...that was absolutely disgusting! They just grabbed scissors and started cutting, pulling and pealing the skin...nasty. They also had a PT (physical therapist) come in and show us some stretches we will need to do so that his hand will heal properly. She made sure we knew that even if it hurt him and he started to cry, that we are not to let go of his hand but lessen the stretch until he calms down and then stretch it again....Michelle, want to come down and visit for a couple of weeks? (this is her field!) But even though this sounds horrible, Rusty was an amazing trooper. He held still for everyone and they all commented on how amazing and calm he is around strangers and even strangers hurting him. Usually kids this age are pulling away and screaming. No, I didn't take any pictures of today's visit (your welcome!) but I have taken some of his cute bandages over the past couple days. This last one is the one from today. We have another appointment at the burn next week, I'll keep you posted.

Army crawl, although now he has gone back to his regular crawl....it turns out it's a good thing he can't walk yet. Crawling on his hand is a good exercise for it!

Oh my gosh! I am so sorry, what a horrible thing to happen to anyone, much less your baby. Poor guy. What a trooper though. Hopefully all is healing well and he won't remember it at all. I hope you still had a Merry Christmas.....
